As Bangalore City started expanding, a new layout was formed in North Bangalore around the year 1990 and was named as Sahakaranagar. Catholic families also started moving to this new layout. This area came under the Parish jurisdiction of Shrine of St Jude, R T Nagar, which is around 6 kms from Sahakaranagar.
The catholic residents of Sahakaranagar, felt the need to identify the Catholics in the area and hence a small group was formed in the year 2002 and started the devotion/novena to the Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt bi-monthly, at the residence of the members on rotation basis. The first prayer meeting was held in the residence of late Mr C A Xavier on January 25, 2003.
Rev Fr Lawrence Noronha, the then Parish Priest of Shrine of St Jude, felt the need to have the Holy Masses in Sahakarnagar to cater to the spiritual needs of elderly and sick people and suggested identifying a suitable place. The first quarterly Holy Mass was offered at the residence of one of our member Mr. Arokiaraj in the year 2003. The response from the members was encouraging and more families started settling in Sahakaranagar and in the surrounding areas. The bi-monthly prayer meetings and quarterly Holy Masses gave an opportunity to the Catholics of the area to meet and interact as a community.
Seeing the support, enthusiasm and encouragement of the families, an Association named Sahakaranagar Catholic Welfare Association was formed in the same year (i.e. 2002). From the year 2003 onwards the association, along with bi-monthly prayer meetings, started having Annual General Body meetings and Christmas celebrations. During the Christmas season association members visited all christian families in and around Sahakarnagar area for carol singing.
The Sahakaranagar Catholic Welfare Association felt the need for a church in the area as the Shrine of St Jude, R T Nagar was at a distance of 6 kms. As suggested by the members a special prayer intention for a church in Sahakaranagar was included in the bi-monthly prayer/novena.
The association members approached the then Arch Bishop His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, with a petition for a church in Sahakaranagar, reckoning the distance from the Shrine of St Jude Church, R T Nagar and as many catholic families had settled in and around Sahakaranagar. Seeing the enthusiasm and commitment of the members, His Grace offered two Holy Masses in Sahakaranagar and this motivated the association.
His Grace advised the association to look for a suitable land for building a church. Due to the protracted search and continuous prayers a suitable site was identified, approved and purchased by the Arch-Diocese. The foundation stone was laid on 21st February 2012 by His Grace Arch Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras. The Church dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity was blessed, consecrated and inaugurated on 5th June 2014 by His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras and Fr. Uday Kumar who was the Parish Priest of Shrine of St Jude R T Nagar ably guided in the overseeing of the Church construction. Rev Fr. R Sebastian was appointed as the first parish priest in 2014.
The Sahakaranagar Catholic Welfare Association’s cherished dream came true due to the intercession of Mother Thrice Admirable of Schoenstatt, St. Jude and the co-operation of the catholic families of Sahakaranagar. The faithful of Sahakaranagar are grateful to the then Arch Bishop Most Rev Bernard Moras and Arch Most Bishop Rev Dr. Peter Machado for his continued support.
